Honaunau 'Apelila Ahiahi is simply Hawaiian for "Honaunau April Evening"
This image was taken on sacred site. In the 16th century this was a place of refuge, providing sanctuary for defeated warriors, violators of taboos, and war criminals.
Today it is a national park and preserved for all to enjoy.
Here, as elsewhere along the Coast, lava flows (these from Mauna Loa) are the dominating coastline feature.
